Bentley's Story
Total Assistance: $25,000
Born with Angelman Syndrome, nine-year-old Bentley requires assistance to walk, eat and drink; he’s nonverbal and has a severe seizure disorder, along with global developmental delays. A few months ago, Bentley’s father and stepmother were granted custody of Bentley.
Now in a safe and loving home with his father, stepmother and two siblings, Bentley has access to both physical and occupational therapy. The family has also repaired Bentley’s wheelchair, installed a ramp for their home’s entrance and upgraded their car to a minivan, but they haven’t been able to add a hitch and hitch lift to make the vehicle fully wheelchair accessible. In the meantime, they’re manually lifting Bentley’s 70-pound wheelchair.
When COVID-19 hit, Bentley’s father was partially furloughed and struggled to provide for his family, especially with the additional medical costs they had recently taken on. We’re so happy we’ve been able to help the family continue to give Bentley the best care and treatment. Because of your donations, we were able to cover the cost of a hitch and lift for their vehicle, as well as ABA therapy for Bentley for the next 12 months.
